Outlook vs. Firewall Client

Many years use OE, first time trying Outlook.... And troubles are here.

We use Firewall Client (ISA 2000, ISA 2004 - one of two channels possible to
select) for internet access. Everything works fine, including OE.

Install Outlook, setup client account and

"Task 'mail.domianname.com - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) :
Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP)."

And this is strange: checking mail settings from similar window from Control
Panel works fine.

Next research of problem show that if I use NAT (setup Default Gateway in
Network Settings) Outlook works. Moreover when I use Firewall Client Outlook
does not send TCP/IP requests (MS XP internal Firewall log is clear).

MS KB is clear about that. What is solution?

Sorry for question. Resolved. It's necessary to change settings for Firewall
Client in ISA Server for Outlook from Disabled=1 (default setting for some
reason (?)) to Disabled=0.

Hi,

Based on my past experience with ISA 2000, Outlook shouldn't have any
issues with the ISA Client. I mean, all that client does is replace the
WinSock layer and redirect all requests to the ISA Server. If I remember
correctly, the ISA Client is the preferred method for using ISA Server,
as it is will definitely work in all cases where Proxy/NAT might have
issues.
Which KB article are you referring to?

My personal suspicion is that something with your ISA Server
configuration is off. Or that something is configured incorrectly with
the ISA client. Even though this problem is with Outlook, I think you
might have a better chance of finding a resolution to this problem in
the ISA newsgroup. The people posting there probably know more about
troubleshooting ISA issues than the people posting here.

I did that configuration, but Outlook can not connect with Exchange Server.
In fact, the error consists in I have to configure Gateway IP address on my
computers to permit communication.

My network has ISA Server 2004, and my computer has Firewall client. Just
add gateway on my NIC, and Outlook works.

Is it correct?

Thank you!
