Outlook Today - [Personal Folders]

Don

I have duplicate "Outlook Today - [Personal Folders]" on
my folder list. They seem to be exact duplications. When
they are expanded they have the same subfolders and
changes to one are reflected in the other. Is there some
way to get rid of the duplicate folder?

Also, below the second "Outlook Today - [Personal
Folders]" is an additional folder called "Personal
Folders" in the same vertical hierarchy as the
two "Outlook Today - [Personal Folders]". When I click on
the "Personal Folders" folder I get a message that
says "! Unable to expand the folder. The set of folders
could not be opened. Item could not be found." Is this
normal?

I am running Windows XP and Outlook 2002 with Windows
Small Office.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Russ. I was able to create a new profile. I then
exported my stuff from the old profile and imported it
into the new one. Then I removed the old profile. Outlook
looks "normal" now.

I believe I created the extra folders when I was fooling
around with a program called SynchPST. The program allows
you to sync Outlook files between a desktop and a laptop.
I had trouble getting SynchPST to open my Outlook.pst
file so I created an additional (copy) PST file on the
desktop. Then I used the File/Open command in Outlook to
open the extra PST file. Pretty clever, huh? ;0) Later I
discovered what I had done and also discovered that I
couldn't undo it.

Looks good now, though. Thanks again.

No. It is not normal. "Outlook Today" designates the default PST file and
Outlook cannot have more than one default set of Personal Folders. So your
Profile is corrupt. While it would be interesting to know how you managed to
do this, it won't have much bearing on how to fix it.

If you can't R click on the extra sets of Folders and use the "Close"
command, you will have to edit the registry to get rid of the extra
references. You may prefer simply to create a new Profile from scratch. If
you do, take careful note of the path to each of the PST files listed in
your current profile (they may all be the same) so you can decide which of
them you want to use when you create your new profile.

If you don't know how to create Outlook profiles, this MS KB article may
help:
