outlook to windows mail problems

I guess that I am a very novice user as I can not decifer most of the
response posts to similar questions. I've had Vista for almost one year.
Tonight I turned on my computer and it had run an update. Now my outlook no
longer works - I have been upgraded to mail. I can still find my old emails
by using the "help box" - and I can still email from there. The Microsoft
mail account also works. I want to move all of my sent, deleted, inbox
emails from the outlook account to the new mail account. How do I do this?
When I try to import it says "messages can not be imported from the MAPI
client". I need very easy, explicit instructions. Thank you.

What is this "Microsoft mail account" you mentioned?

If you are used to Outlook, you would be better off staying with Outlook.
Migrating messages from Outlook to Windows Mail is not a trivial
operation for an admitted novice.

That message would indicate that Outlook is no longer installed (Outlook is
the "MAPI client" listed in the error message). If it was installed, then
vanished with this update, try running Detect and Repair either from the
Help menu in Outlook (if you can still open it) or from Setup on the install
CD. If this fixes it, then you've no need to move anything from Outlook to
Windows Mail, unless you decide you like WM's interface and operation
better. Note that Windows Mail is NOT and upgrade to Outlook; to most
Outlook users, it is a significant Downgrade.

Hi!

I have a PC with Outlook express 6 and XP. I have now changed to a new PC
with Vista and Windows mail. I made an export on the XP Pcand got a file
with the extention pf. Copied it to the vista PC. Then I started Windows
mail and went to import from outlook 6, but it did not find any file. What
have i done wrong?

No need for any exports on the XP PC, all you need to do is make copies of
the .DBX files (Outlook Express' data files), take these to your Vista PC,
and follow these instructions:
