Outlook stopped working

I have an XP Home edition 2002 with Service Pack3. Outlook (and Word) stopped
working the other day. When I click on Outlook, Windows installer opens. I
get an error message: "AN error occurred and this feature is no longer
functioning properly. Would you like to repir this feature now?" I click
Yes. I get another message: "Microsoft Outlook cannot install the necessary
files due to Windows Installer error 1635. This patch could not be opened.
Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it or contact
the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch
package". I click OK. I get another message " Microsoft Outlook has not been
installed for the current user.. Please run setup to install the application"
I click OK and the Microsoft Outlook box closes. How can I repair and/or
install Outlook?

Unfortunately, the install cd version is older than the version on my machine
and i am unable to access the cd.

How did you manage to install a newer version without an installation CD?
