Outlook still in Process list

S

Sebastian Wiegand

Hello,

we use Outlook 2000 and 2003 on our W2K and XP-Clients. I noticed that
Outlook sometimes will still be listed in the process list although I closed
Outlook.

After this, I could only start Outlook again after I manually closed all
running Oulook processes.

Where is the problem ?

Please help

Yours sincerely

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.

Milly, you've posted this response a thousand times, which means microsoft
needs to look further for the solution. I fixed this a month ago, and upon
buying another machine with Outlook 03 and Winfax 10.02 on it, the problem
repeated. It took me a week of research to remember how I fixed it in the
first place. HERE IS THE FIX THAT HAS WORKED FOR ME TWICH IN SUCCESSION ON
DIFFERENT MACHINES:

The error is in file c:/program files/winfax/dccda32i.dll, 1538k, dated
9/28/2000. It's WINFAX that's causing the problem! This file creates the
incompatability. It must be replaced with same file/same size, but dated
9/29/2000. Don't ask me where I got the file, because I don't remember, but
by coping that file off the machine I'd previously fixed, and pasting it into
the new machine with the error, it works; no hangs, the outlook icon
dissappears with no errors. THIS FIX WORKS.

MS can't do a thing about this problem since it's WinFax that is causing it.
Symantec would have to fix it but they don't seem very interested in doing
so. FWIW there have been problems with WinFax and Outlook integration since
Outlook 2002 came out and not very much in the way of fixes from Symantec
that actually work very well.

It's not that hard to do, most software vendors have had little problem in
fixing their code to work with Outlook 2002 and 2003.
