outlook standard 2003 share calendars

Hi,

I am using outlook standard 2003, we have exchange server (local), and need
to shard calendars for several members. Tried many times but got no luck.

What I did: I added "microsoft exchange server" Email account in "Control
Panel", and even set it as default.( will can not set it as default).

The problems:
1 my outlook does not have "Share My Calendar" button, even though I
followed
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP011111491033.aspx?pid=CH062556101033

2 if I click "Open a Shared Calendar", there is an error" Unable to display
the folder. The Calendar could not be found" after I added "microsoft
exchange server".

3 the "Calendar Properties" only has : General/Home
Page/AutoArchive/Administration/Forms, there is no "permissions" tab.

Thanks for help!

It sounds like the Calendar item you're talking about is in a personal
folder (PST). At the to of navigation pane, do you see something like the
following?

Mailbox - User Name

Is your default delivery location an Exchange mailbox or Personal Folder?

John, thanks so much for you reply!

After I added the "Exchange Server" through " Control Panel", there is a
Mailbox-User Name, otherwise, no Mailbox-User Name.

I am totally new for outlook, but I think the default delivery location is
Personal Folder, because I do not have Exchange account before.

Could you tell me what I can do next? Thanks.

Set Exchange mailbox as default delivery location: Tools - Email Accounts -
View or change existing email accounts (click Next) - Deliver new email to
the following location (Mailbox - User Name). Also, delete your POP3/SMTP
servers from the profile.

If that doesn't let you see Permissions tab to share calendar, try creating
a new profile with Exchange server only (no personal folder, no POP3/SMTP).

Btw, you can also try right clicking Calendar folder under your Mailbox,
then click Properties. You should be able to see Permissions tab. That's
where you set permissions so everyone (or selected users) can see your
calendar.

Thanks very much, John.

I tried set Exchange mailbox as default delivery location, but still no
Permission tab to share calendar.

I am sorry that I do not know how to create a new profile with Exchange
server, could you guide me?

And I am told not to change default mail delivery location. Thanks so much.

still no permissions tab. I tried right clicking Calendar folder, there is
even no Properties, there are only two things: Open in new window; Navigation
Pane Options.

Thanks so much.

Great, I can see Share my Calendar and permission tab. Thanks so much for
your great help!

But there is anther question, how can we use the original email account, it
was pop3, we need this email account.

Thanks.

You 2 earlier posts say you can't get it to work. What did you do this time?

Microsoft does not recommend using Exchange server and POP3/SMTP in the same
profile. You can create a different profile for your POP3/SMTP mail.

Thanks.

I followed your instructions and restart outlook, that's it.

But how to create a different profile for POP3/SMTP, thanks for your great
help!

By removing pop3/SMTP servers?

You're welcome. First, let me correct what said earlier. I meant to say MS
does not "support" (instead of MS does not "recommend") mixing POP/SMTP in
the same profile but that was old (versions prior to Outlook 2002). They may
very well support it now on Outlook 2003 and later versions. Anyway, if you
can't share your mailbox calendar when internet mail servers (pop3/smtp) is
in the same profile, you may as well create a new one. Go to Control panel
and double click Mail icon then:

- click Show Profiles button
- click Add button
- give it a new profile name
- click OK and follow wizard to create a new mail account (select POP3 when
you're at that step)

Thanks so much for your great help!

Everything works great!

But I need to choose a profile whenever I open outlook, is it supposed to be
so?

Many thanks.

Yes if you have multiple Outlook profiles. You won't be prompted if you set
a default profile (When starting MS Office Outlook - Always use this
profile).

You should be asking your IT people.
