Outlook sp3 upgrade internet format change to rich text

Hello All,
Please for gods sake help me!

I recently upgraded my MD's LT from office XP to office
SP3 and it caused no end of issues relating to rich text
options, HTML and Plain text.

With a very pissed off MD, I uninstalled office and
reinstalled to get it back to the version it was before.

Unfortunately, this caused quite a few 'bugs' that will
probably get me fired.....

It seems that there seems to have been changes made to the
format of which the mail client sends on the internet.
Before upgrading, it was on send internet format as HTML
and after rolling back and reinstalling, it seemed to be
on Outlook rich text format internet format (Which as I am
sure that most of you know, does not work with UNIX and
LInux mail relay systems, look up winmail.dat for
more....).

My question is in 2 parts,

1. Does anyone know if SP3 did this for some reason?

2. Why the hell doesnt MS Outlook just send in the format
that you create or wholey recommend that a. HTML is the
best to send in because it converts to plain text at plain
text only recipients and b. Rich text DOES NOT WORK WITH
AROUND 25% of mail clients/mail servers running
Linux/UNIX??

Now my MD likes to create in Rich text, thats fine, but he
has now lost confidence in me, this, I fear will cost me
my job because I have been trying to find this resolve on
google, MS and other sources to resolve and it has taken 4
days so far. He is not happy with just sending in Plain
text.

IT techies know what I am talking about with this one!

Please people, look in:

Outlook | tools | options | Mail format tab | Internet
format | Outlook Rich Text Options | and check the drop
down list, it will save you a lot of time... a hell of a
lot of time.....

What sort of issues? All your Office XP installations should be kept
patched.

Right - Rich Text is best avoided.

Change the message format in tools, options, mail format.

So change it to HTML.

Yes - that's the first thing I do when I set up Outlook for someone. I
haven't seen a service pack change this, but it's easy enough to fix.

1) We're seeing a few reports - I think a setting is changed rather than an
actual bug.
2) what is the setting in tools, options, mail format, internet?
3) the sender really should use html or plain text format (since the people
he sends to can't see the pretty formatting unless they also use outlook),
but if he insists on composing in rtf, then make sure all of the addresses
are set for plain text or HTML (click on the address in the to field or in
the address field of a contact to check.)

Using a UNIX or Linux relay or mail server generally isn't an issue - at
worst, the winmail.dat is stripped or damaged but its just a useless
attachment for anyone not using outlook. If he sends an attachment, the
attachment is buried in the winmail.dat - so he should use html or plain
text.
