Outlook send issue

Can I configure Outlook 2003 to automatically send a message without opening
Outlook?

In other words we use a an application that aquires images from a scanner
and one of the selections in the application is send/mail recipient. When it
is selected a "new" mail message opens from Outlook but Outlook itself does
not open automatically. After hitting "send" the message will stay in the
"Outbox" until Outlook is opened. I want the message(s) to send automatically
without opening Outlook.

We are useing Outlook 2003.
