If you receive a Plain Text message, Outlook will reply in Plain Text.
Outlook always uses the format of the original message.

Thanks Brian,

I understand what you're saying, but this is happening when I reply to HTML
messages - reply comes up as plain text? But only sometimes, as best I can
tell. Some replies go out as HTML normally. Odd, I know.

I dont know if it means anything, but on some of those, I get the 'extra
line breaks removed" message, if that helps at all...

Interestingly - I pulled up some of the same emails that I've had trouble
with on another computer. Replies work fine on the other one, and its
looking like, on the original computer, incoming emails are being somehow
received in plain text - not so on the second comuter. That would explain the
reply problem, but why would they come in as plain text on one and not the
other?
Thanks

There are a number of reasons why this might ne happening. One might be that
one PC has had the option enabled to receive all mail in Plain Text. Another
might be that one PC is scanning incoming mail with an antivirus or -spam
scanner, which can disrupt the HTML formatting and cause things to be
displayed in Plain Text.

OK, thanks. Where is the setting you mention to receive mail in plain text?
I'll try disabling my anti virus also.

Thanks for sticking with me on this

Depends on the version of Outlook, which you've neglected to mention.
