Outlook, read messages in plain text

I have seen in M.S. advice columns that it is safer to
read messages in plain text, but I can not see how to do
this. Can anyone help with this please. I have Outlook 2002

I have found (and followed) this web page's suggestions. However, I would
like to both send and receive emails in plain text. I am using Outlook XP
(or 2002).
