outlook.pst is not a personal folder file

I installed a new hard drive and tried to copy my Data (Outlook.pst file) to
the new drive. When I try to open it in outlook the following error message
comes up: The file C:\My DocumentsHD2\Outlook.pst is not a personal folders
file.
I may have changed the file extension, but I do not think I did???????
Help!

State how you created and transported this file, especially whether you used
an export function to create it.
State whether you removed any read only attribute it may have accquired from
being on storage medium.

I copy/pasted data including the pst file from the old hard drive to the new
one. I did not burn any data to CD so I do not think I have an issue with
the file being read-only.

Only you might know how you corrupted the file. You have not provided enough
information for us to tell. Are you certain you did not copy and paste to a
location where you might have overwritten another PST file?
Have you checked this file for errors using the Inbox Repair Tool?

"Only you know might know how you corrupted this file":
Only God knows how I corrupted this file. Believe me if this did not feel
like I am walking thru the valley of the shadow of death without fear because
you ( Saint Valentine) are my rod and my staff...

"You have not provided enough information for us to tell"
I hope I am doing a better job, I thought I answered your questions my last
post.

"Sate how you created ... this file": Back in 1997.. no 98 argh, maybe99...
on late nite at the office, i think my wife was in TN, and I had first
started using computers, wasn't to smart being that I am a plumber not a
computer genias like you I really don't remember how I created his file.

"State how you...transported this file": I installed a new harddrive on my
computer, then installed the old hard drive (it showed up as F:) then
copy/pasted to a new folder on the new hard drive called Documents and
SettingHD3-- then I copy/pasted into the Outlook data file in Doc and
Settings, Microsoft,Outlook on the new hard drive.

"Are you certain you did not copy and paste to a
location where you might have overwritten another PST file?"
Probably, assuming that Outlook created such a file on install. I did not
check before I copy/pasted.

"Have you checked this file for errors using the Inbox Repair Tool":
Yes, could not get it to work. Something about Outlook not being able to
synchronize offline.

More information:
I have, since my last post, upgraded to WindowsXP-Pro from 2000
I uninstalled OfficeXP and reinstalled it. (Hoping to start Outlook from
scratch but still got error .pst not pst when first opening Outlook)
I have an older copy of my Outlook.pst file that has not been to the valley
of the shadow of death.
I have a Sony Clie with current data that I can use to update this older file.
Since I am rebuilding my computer all obtions are on the table.

Last, I have read many of the posts you helped with. I don't know how you
put up with us. If you guys got any plumbing question try me at
(e-mail address removed). Thanks.
