Outlook .pst files will not import - please help

Hi
I have moved to a new computer, I have followed the rules to export and
import emails to Outlook, but when I import there is a error message that
states
"The file is not compatible with this version of the personal folders
information service."

To fix this, I read that older versions of Outlook are not compatible with
newer Outlook, so create a new Outlook 97-2002 Data File by using File->
New-> Outlook Data File... , and then select Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders
File (.pst).

I did this, and tried to import it to the new computer, but it still is not
importing.

The new computer is running Outlook 2002, SP3, the old computer is running
the same, so I don't know why the conflicts.

Should I just upgrade the new computer to Outlook 2003 to fix this problem?

There's no need to import (despite what the unhelpful help files say :) )
..PST is Outlook's native file format. Just open your .PST file in Outlook by
using File | Open | Outlook Data File.

Oh, and make sure the file isn't marked read-only before you attempt to open
it.

Was your old .pst file created with Outlook 2003, using the new format? THen you'll need Outlook 2003 to read it.

To fix this, I read that older versions of Outlook are not compatible
with newer Outlook, so create a new Outlook 97-2002 Data File by
using File-> New-> Outlook Data File... , and then select Outlook
97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst).

Explicitly, File>New>Outlook Data File>Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File
(.pst)>Next. Browse to the folder where you want it (or accept the
default), give it a name (or accept the default) and click OK. Give it a
display name, like Old Format Folders (or accept the default), and click OK.
You should now see that PST, containing the single folder Deleted Items, in
your Folder List. Now, right-click each of your original folders in turn
and choose Copy. Specify the new PST as the destination. When you've
copied all your original folders to the new PST, right-click its root (i.e.,
"Old Format Folders" - or whatever you named it) in the Folder List and
choose Close. Close Outlook (File>Exit or the X in the upper right). Copy
the fresh PST to the other computer. If you use a CD or DVD to do this,
copy the PST from the device to some Windows folder on second PC's hard
drive, taking care not to overwrite any existing PST, remove the read-only
attribute from the file, and start Outlook. In Outlook, click
File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to the PST, select ot, and click OK. It
will now appear in your Folder List (as "Old Format Folders", or by whatever
you named it above) and you will have access to everything it contains. If
you wish, you can copy any non-default folder as you did originally, by
right-clicking and choosing Copy. For the default folders (i.e., Inbox,
Outbox, Sent Items, Calendar, Contacts, etc.), open each in turn, select all
the items (CTRL-A should work, but the Calendar will have to be viewed in a
list view first), then click Edit>Copy to Folder. Specify the corresponding
default folder as the destination. Alternatively, if you just want to
replace the existing default folders with those contained in the added PST,
click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next, and change the "Delivery new e-mail to the
following location" drop-down at the bottom left to be your added PST. Stop
and restart Outlook. You can them remove the old folders with
right-click>Close.

Is that clear enough?
