Outlook profile is repeatedly corrupted

I have a client that is running Outlook 2003 on XP pro sp2 with all updates
done. He originally complained about duplicate emails and being unable to
download any new email. He is connecting to a POP3 server.

After checking that the 'leave copy of message on server' was not checked, I
searched for possible issues. I found several posts that mentioned delete
the user profile and recreate it. This works for about a day, and then the
problem re-occurs.

I have gone so far as to use regedit to delete the user profiles in the
registry, and create a new one then.

The profile still gets corrupted.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
Thanks,
Duncan

Any chance there's an AntiVirus/AntiSpam scanner in this picture somewhere?
Are there any .PST file import or export operations being conducted?

Hi Hal,

Yes, CA anti-virus and anti-spam suite is installed. The client has had
endless trouble with the firewall component of this. I will get him to
disable it for a day or two and see if that helps.

As for import/export of .pst files, nothing from Outlook itself. The only
thing that might touch those other than CA is Retrospect backup software on a
WD 'one touch backup' device. Is that something that could hoke the user
profile?

Thanks,
Duncan

I doubt it, unless the backup software attempts to do something with Outlook
open. As to CA, make sure it isn't scanning email; having it resident
shouldn't be a problem, but I've never seen ANY client email scanner that
doesn't cause problems, Norton and McAfee being the worst offenders.

Thanks Hal!

I have not heard back from the client, so I hope that this has solved his
issue. If it continues with CA disabled, I will re-post.

You MVP's outstanding contributions are really appreciated by me, at least!
