I downloaded the latest Microsoft security updates. When I run Outlook the
mail server login prompts don't load and it can't connect to my POP3 mail
servers. This happened the last time I downloaded the Microsoft security
updates. A Microsoft customer service rep had me go to Run and enter a
command which loaded a task manager style window allowing me to disable
applications and through a series of system restarts we fixed the problem.
Does anyone know what the Run command is that will load his tool?

Do you mean msconfig?

If you provide more info on your configuration we might be able to solve it
completely as security updates should not restrict Outlook from running
properly.

Tips of the month:
-FREE tool; QuickMail. Create new Outlook items anywhere from within Windows
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data

Thanks Roady! Msconfig was the tool I needed. I disabled all the Norton /
Symantec applications and restarted the system. Outlook worked fine and then
I reenabled them. Everything is working properly. This is the second time
the Microsoft Security update has caused this problem. Thanks once again for
the help!

Hi Dmitri,

Good to hear! You might want to check with Norton for updates as well as
this isn't normal behavior. If you have the Norton application integrated
with Outlook you might want to disable this integration. It doesn't offer an
additional level of security to Outlook just a lot of trouble. The on-access
scanner will kick in anyway when a virus is detected.
