I am using Outlook 2003 and recently I have had an issue with Outlook not
responding. I open Outlook and it runs normally, goes out to get new mail,
after that it slows my computer way down, as if it locks up for a minute then
it releases for 30 seconds then locks up. This cycle lasts a long time and
while this is going on my hard drive goes into a rythmic "grind". Its almost
like the harddrive is in a constant loop and keeps doing it over and over. I
have tried to reinstall outlook, I have done a repair, I removed outlook and
reinstalled. I am out of ideas, anyone have a suggetion??

The first thing to do is to eliminate any scanning of incoming mail by your
antivirus program. The next thing to do is (with Outlook closed), delete or
rename the file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat. Finally, disable the IM integration
at the bottom of Tools>Options>Other.

Thanks Brian but unfortunately your suggestion did not work. When it starts
up it goes through the "cycle" then it stops for awhile, I tried to shut it
down and it went to same grinding cycle. I dont know what else to do. One
additional peice of information my speakers make an odd clicking noise while
its in the grinding cycle. The only thing I have left is blow the harddrive
and start from scratch but I really dont want to do that.
