OUtlook NK2 files

Hi All,

I am trying to figure out how to have the NK2 files point to my Server
so they are backed up. If a hard drive crashes then I lose all the
information in the NK2 file. This has become a problem since my users
have become accustomed to this feature and at times fail to add these
contacts in their contact folder thereby losing the email address
altogether. Rather than rely on their memories I figured I would back
point the folder to the network as I do their pst files.

Anyone know how I can achieve this?

Thanks,

Linda

Outlook is hardcoded to put the NK2 where it puts it, namely in %appdata%/Microsoft/Outlook,
so you'd need to move that directory to a server and hope that network blips
don't cause the file to go corrupt.

Or, configure some way for that directory on the users machine to be mirrored
to the server.

Actually what I did is set up Folder Redirection for the Application
Data Folder. This was I am sure to capture whatever I need for each
user. I will see if this presents any issues with storage space.

Thank you for your suggestion though.

I should have said at the outset that I am using SBS.

Thanks again,

If you are saying the pst's are stored on the network, that configuration is
not supported by MS either

DL,

I'm not sure what you are saying. Where did pst's come from? And who
said they are stored on the network?

We were talking about the NK2 files. As far as the pst files, in
outlook I have those files pointing to the Server. These are the pst's
not ost's.

You just did (see below).

So you do store PST files on the network and set outlook to point to it,
don't you?

use a log off script to copy the NK2 to the server. It's safer than
repointing the folder - if they lose network access the file may be lost.
