Outlook never seems to finish downloading my pop3 mail

I am using Outlook 2007 SP1 to connect to both hotmail and my pop3 mail
accounts. My main problem is that it never seems to finish downloading my
email. Also when I start up Outlook it goes back to my pop3 accounts and
appears to be downloading all the messages again.

How can I get it to download just the new messages?

Thank you for this, but I may have miss stated my problem. I do not get
duplicate messages. Here is what happens. When I start outlook it goes into
the send/receive mode, where it tells me it is receiving 1,2,3...of 228
messages. but it never seems to finish these. The next time I open outlook
or hit send and receive it starts all over, receiving 1,2,3 .... of 228 or
229 whatever the number is and again I may get a few messages but It never
finishes. But I also do not get dupilcate messages. Outlook seems to be
spending a great deal of time doing very little.

thanks again.....

I appreciate the quick response but I may have miss stated my problem. I do
not get duplicate emails. Outlook just seems to go into a never ending loop
of receiving emails. It tells me it is downloading lets say 1,2,3,4....of
228 but it never finishes. I do not get duplicates but I never see all the
emails it says it is downloading either. It also tells me it is downloading
X number is bytes of 6.87 MB but even when it gets near the end it shows
maybe only have the number of bytes it was supose to download.

Thanks again,

Outlook appears to be having trouble with one of the messages on the server.
Note which message it says its processing. Then, using a webmail interface,
connect to your mailbox on the server and see if you can locate the message
it's trying to download but cannot and temporarily move that message to
another server folder. Then try to download with Outlook again.

What is our automatic send/receive interval set to?
Also, if you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable this
integration and try again.

If you still have issues then; see Brian's remark.
