Outlook, navigation pane off in personal folders but on in mail

Outlook.

It would be easier if the 'personal folder' [which I use as a homepage and
think is great] did not have the navigation pane [which I know can be set]
BUT when in mail the navigation pane should automatically come on.

At the moment the user can turn the navigation pane off BUT its then always
off which means that navigating around the folders when in mail is not easy.

How would you switch to the Mail Navigation if the Navigation Pane is turned
off? Keyboard shortcuts or are you using the View menu? ;-)
