Outlook Moving from Exchange to Stand Alone

My desktop from work was set up with exchange server settings that no longer
exist now that I have it as a stand alone at home. How can I remove my
exchange user without loosing all my saved messages in folders? Yes, I
learned the hard way on another computer...

Make sure you copy everything that you wish to keep to a pst-file first. To
create a pst-file use;
File-> New-> Outlook Data File...

After that you can remove the Exchange account or, probably even better,
start with a clean mail profile and reattach the saved pst-file via;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...
