outlook lockup

i tried to receive a large e-mail yesterday and it fractured locking up my
outlook completely. I can't receive, send, delete, move files, or anything
what do I do?

Version of Outlook? How big is your .pst file?

Where is pst file located? What is max limit?
If at max limit, how do i go about creating new file? what will happen to
current pst file?

Search for .pst and make sure that search for hidden files is enabled.

for hidden files. Search for outlook.pst.

where is that file normally located?

For Windows XP, it's notmally located in %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. For Windows Vista, it's normally
in %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. Just open WIndows Explorer and paste the
appropriate path into the Address bar and click Go.

You'll need to see this:

Once you've repaired the existing PST, create a new one with File>New>Outlook
Data File, make the data file your default delivery location with Tools>E-mail
Accounts>View or change existing e-mail accounts>Next (change the "Deliver new
e-mail to the following location" drop-down to choose the new PST, then
restart Outlook), and move some of the data from the old PST to the new one.

but my scanpst.exe does not work and to get my info from that program
I have to upgrade and manually install contacts
is there a better way?

does that mean type them in 1 by 1 or can I merge them?

Control Panel > Mail. Double click on the icon and then use Data Files,
"Change settings ..."

"M" is incorrect. Start the Mail applet in Control Panel. Click the E-mail
Accounts button, select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and click
Next. At the lower left will be a drop-down labeled "Deliver new e-mail to
the following location". Change that drop-down to point to your new PST.
Click Finish. Click the Data Files button, select the broken PST and click
Remove. Click Close, then Close again. Outlook should now be able to start
with your new data file as the delivery location. You can then repair the old
PST as explained in the link I posted previously, which should allow you to
recover most of its contents.

What is your .pst file size?

In case of large .pst file:

Microsoft Outlook 2002 and its earlier versions, which include Outlook 2000,
98 and 97, have 2 GB size limit problem with PST (Personal Storage) file. If
the PST file reaches or exceeds this size limit, the file can not be opened
and stored data can not be accessed. There are strong chances of PST file
corruption when it exceeds the size limit.

Options:
1. Use oversize PST crop tool. Visit here for detailed information about the

2. Compact .pst file: compact .pst file to eliminate deleted item space in
outlook
