Outlook locks on launch

Outlook 2000 SR-2
When I launch outlook it automatically goes to my top
email. That message is corrupt and causing the program to
lock. Any ideas on how to remove a corrupt email when you
can't click on anything inside the Outlook window?
 
start | run | type: outlook.exe /safe | ok button. delete message since the
preview pane should be off at this point.
