Outlook launches then immediately closes

We have a customer that uses Outlook 97 in a Citrix environment. They use
POP3 e-mail. One new user profile is set up correctly but when Outlook is
launched, it opens, a message appears saying "Please wait while Outlook
builds the Outlook Bar," then Outlook disappears.

There are no messages regarding this in the event logs. I have confirmed
that outlook.exe is not running in the background. The user has complete
access to the .pst and .pab files. I have removed the user's profile and
recreated it, with the same result. I have not seen this before. Searching
the Internet has not yielded a solution. Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks.

With Outlook closed, rename the outcmd.dat file and then open Outlook to see
if that helps.

I am unable to locate outcmd.dat on the server. I have done a full search of
the drives, including hidden files but it doesn't seem to be there. This is
Outlook 97. Does it use outcmd.dat?

I must say with Outlook 97, I'm not sure. It's been many years since I've
used it. However if there IS an outcmd.dat file it would be on the local PC,
not the server. Unhide files and folders and then do a search for it. I'll
see if I can search for anything peculiar about Outlook 97 and Citrix.
