Outlook inbox messages disappear before being read

in Microsoft Outlook I see "Inbox (61)" but when I click on the inbox, the
screen flashes and they all disappear. When I close and re-open Outlook the
"Inbox (61)" appears; I click on it and all disappear again.

I have used Outlook for years and never had this problem.

that's IMAP then - what happens if you keep the inbox open and hit F9 or
Shift+F9?
