Outlook Inbox Delay

Ever since we went to XP Professional we have a problem
with new mail notifications in Outlook. It happens with
both Office 2000 and Office XP. I takes a long time for
new mail to show up in the inbox. As soon as you leave the
inbox (i.e. go to contacts) the new mail will show up. Any
ideas?
