Outlook importing a pst file

I'm having trouble importing the .pst file that I generated before having my
laptop repaired. They wiped out my entire hard drive so the only way I can
recover my outlook files is through this backup.pst file. Unfortunately, it
tells me that the file is not a personal folder file and is seems like
outlook can't recognize it. I've tried to repair the file with the repair
script in outlook and I've tried putting it on my hard drive and then
importing it but I get the same error. I also verified that the file is not
"read-only" and I've even tried renaming the file and overwriting my current
outlook .pst file in windows (then outlook wouldn't open). Please help!!!!!

I was using 2003 before when I created the backup and I'm using 2003 now.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hmmm. Usually that error is only seen when the file is read only or when it
was created with Outlook 2003 and you're now using an earlier version.
