Outlook Hyperlinks received in email don't work

I

Ivanhoe

I'm using Outlook 2003 with SP2 under XP Home on a laptop.
A hyperlink received in an email stopped working and went instead to a
"links" page displaying an explorer view of "My Computer", C drive
etc., as though it had lost contact with Internet Explorer, so I
navigated to the IE exe file and selected that. Now when hitting the
hyperlink, IE opens but with an invalid URL. The URL comprises 3
parts, "outbind://" followed by a numeric string, followed by the
correct URL. In IE I have tried looking at Tools, Internet Options,
Programs and RESET WEB SETTINGS but without any difference. Have also
been to Control Panel, Tools, Folder Options, File Types and checked
the URL: Hypertext Transfer Protocol setting to check the OPEN control
which contained the following: "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome I also checked the URL: Hypertext
Transfer Protocol with Privacy which was the same. Other users
reporting this kind of problem seem to have fixed the problem with the
above actions and settings. I am now stumped as to what to do next.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
