Outlook, Hotmail (MSN Email), and Outlook Connector

I know that even if you have a "Grandfatherd hotmail address and check it
through your Outlook the New Mail alert will not work. What about if you have
the outlook connector? I have tried but never received a notfication. I do
have another pop3 type account that is set up in outlook also, under the same
profile.

Is it possible to make the new mail notifaction work with hotmail at all?
What about having the MSN Msger notification open Outlook instead of the web?
 
I'm pretty sure I've seen it if the connector is set as the default account
and it;s pst is used as the default delivery store.
