Outlook Hangs on Spell Check

I've found a few reports of this problem on various newsgroups but no fix -
so I'll try here. I have one user, using Outlook 2002 SP3 (Build
10.6515.6626) who regularly experiences Outlook hanging when he tries to send
a message. Outlook.exe takes 98% CPU and it sits there indefinitely until the
process is killed, at which point he loses the message he was trying to send
unless it is saved in drafts. It appears to be related to the spell check but
I cannot be sure of this. I can confirm that his PC still has a connection to
the Exchange server when the process has hung. (EXchange 2003 SP1). Detect &
repair and a re-install have both been tried in the past but with no
improvement. Any ideas?

Hi,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Newsgroups!

Since this customer use the Exchange in the Outlook, I suggest you perform
a test on anther machine to check if this issue is related to the server
side.

If issue does not occur on another machine, this issue is related to the
client side, I suggest you perform the following steps to narrow down this
issue. Thank you for your cooperation.

Step 1: Disable the spell check
==================
Since this issue might be related to the spell check, please go to the Tool
menu->Options->Spell Check, disable the spell check before sending the
message option.

If issue persists, please perform a test in the safe mode.

Step 2: Starting Outlook in Safe Mode
=========================
Safe Mode will disable all add-ins and extensions that will not start, as
well as any corrupted resources, files, registries and templates.

1. Start Outlook, click Tools -> Options, and then select the Other tab.

2. Click the Advanced Options button, and then click COM Add-Ins, and
uncheck all add-ins.

3. Click OK until the Options dialog box is closed, then close Outlook.

4. Click Start menu-> Run, type "Outlook /Safe" (without the quotation
marks and there is a space between Outlook and /Safe) in the Open box and
press Enter.

Step 3: Starting Windows in Clean mode (For Windows XP)
==========================
If the problem still occurs, considering that this problem may be due some
other programs, please try to start Windows in Clean Boot mode and perform
a test. Please follow the steps below to do this:

1. Click Run in the Start Menu.

2. Type "msconfig.exe" (without the quotation) to start System
Configuration Utility.

3. Click Startup tab, and Click Disable All to uncheck all of the Startup
Item. (The items can be recovered by clicking Enable All.)

4. Click Service tab, check the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and
click Disable All.

5. Click Apply and click close, and reboot your compute.

6. Test the issue again.

Please respond me with the results of above steps as your earliest
conventience, If you have anything unclear, please feel free to let me
know.

Sincerely,
