Outlook freezing on exit

I have an office in which all the systems are running winodws 2000 professional
with all the latest service packs Running Office 2000 premium. on some of the
systems outlook will freeze up when you go to close it.. the little box
that says its shutting down will just stay there. Trying to open it again
will fail as the process is still running (some users have had up to 10
instances running in the task manager) Unless and until you kill that process
you can not open outlook again.
Now this has occured on a few of the systems... not all.. but once it starts
happening to a system it always happens from that time forth.

any ideas on what I can check for to see why this is occuring?

Yes this is a repost of the same question I posted a couple weeks ago.
The suggestions of office repair did not work.

Does anyone know what outlook is trying to do when it closes?

Have you run Detect/Repair? Do you have any Com addins?; if so disable these
and test, then enable individually, testing each one. If you can identify the
problem Addin, ensure you have latest addin update. Any thing else linked to
Outlook such as Fax etc?

something is preventing it from closing. Do you have a pda you sync or is
another program accessing outlook data?

I got a akin problem.

My Outlook 2000 freezes during closing (message still appears that outlook
get´s closed) until I kill the process.

I don´t use synchronisation.

One phenomenon happens: If i don´t connect to the exchange server my outlook
2000 closes sucessfully.

We use a Small Business 2003 Server with Exchange (don´t know version and
which service packs).

My Outlook run´s under NT 4.0 service pack 6 and has version 9.0.something
with service release 1.

If you have a solution for me it would be nice from you.

regards,

Dirk Lehmann

I have exactly the same problem in my 100 user network. Only a handful of
users have reported it so far but I have it on my workstation too. It seems
to have started a few months ago and I am suspicious that it is a conflict
with a Microsoft patch that we installed.
I have read the responses in many forums and I can tell you that:
1. Running the Repair option doesnt fix it.
2. Seems to have nothing to do with whether any sync devices are installed.

I have searched numerous forums and here is what I have come up with:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;834005
Now this fix has had several updates, the latest is 841355. MS states that
this fix will be incorporated into the next SP.
I also found a link to the original fix file kb834005 if you want to try that:
http://orangemog.com/kb834005.zip
I am trying it on 1 machine to see how it goes.

**UPDATE**
I called Microsoft and got the 841355 (latest update for 834005) Hotfix,
installed it and Outlook closes perfectly now on my test computer.
Its a FREE Hotfix!
