Outlook File storage conversion

M

mikem

My normal operation is to make folders within projects outside of
Outlook. Then as corrospondence comes in I file it with other project
documentation (spreadsheets, word doc, etc). I have recently had the
stored files turn to hieroglyphics when retreaved. I can pull them
into outlook (ie inbox) and read them, I can "Detect and Repair" and
temporarily fix them. This is a recent problem. Anyone have any
solution.

Do you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook? Disable it and try
again.

Tried that and no change as far as I can see.

Thanks,
Mike

Then you're gonna have to be a bit more specific about your mail
configuration and the exact steps you take to save an attachment to disk.

Pretty easy. I drag the email (with or without an attachment) from the
inbox or sent mail box and drop it in the folder where I am filing that
piece of corrospondence.

configuration and the exact steps you take to save an attachment to disk.

Into an Explorer folder? So it gets converted into a msg-file?
What version of Outlook are you using and what mail account type?

Ah, yes, I suppose. I make a "new folder" (or numerous folders) at the
start of a project then drop and drag email corrospondence into them as
a file. I believe they are converted (but I don't know to what type
file) and I suspect that is the problem. But it only recently started
showing up.

THanks,
Mike

Drag and drop should not give any problem and it always results in a msg
file. What sort of icon do you see in the directory? I suggest it's an
envelop.
Maybe you've installed a compression add-in for Outlook? Maybe that doesn't
work with msg files.
Are all your msg files giving these troubles or only a few? Can your other
users open the msg files? Maybe someone saves the msg files having another
version of Outlook!
I stopped using drag and drop, I was not happy about the filename and date,
I now use mailtofile (www.mailtofile.com/en/).
We have different versions of Outlook, but that msg version problem has been
solved, because for mailtofile the outlookversion doesn't matter.
