I have recently noticed that when I click on a link to someones e-mail
address ( ie on a webpage etc) I get a message stating 'could not perform
this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed' and
I have to manually enter the address to send an e-mail.
This problem has only recently occured and to my knowledge no settings
regarding mail clients etc have been altered.
I would therefore appreciate any help or advice to allow me to click on
these links so the address appears automatically when sending mail.

Regards - Rob.

Go to Start | Run and type the following:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /reg
(Check the path to msimn.exe to make sure that is correct)
(Copy and paste the FULL line to make sure it is correct.)

Then open Internet Explorer and go to Tools | Internet Options |
Programs and set OE as the default mail (and news) program.

Then see this link, which you may need also.
