Outlook Express

When i am sending e-mail in outlook express 6 i create mail then click the
send button the e mail goes to outbox and it says connecting in the bottom
status bar however it stalls there for a bit probly close to 1 min then
finally sends. Anyone have any ideas why this would do that?
p.s i have tried with all antivirus software shut off and no difference.
