First: This is not the proper venue for problems with MS Outlook Express. MS
Outlook is a totally different application than MS Outlook Express.

Second: MS Outlook Express never had a spell checker; it always "borrowed"
the spell checker from other MS applications, such MS Office, or MS Works.
When I set up my old HP Pavilion 6745C, with Windows Me, HP had included the
MS Works 2000 suite, and MS Outlook Express was able to utilize the spell
checker. But, when I set up my new HP Pavilion m7590n, HP had included MS
Works 8,0, and that application spell checker is not compatible with MS
Outlook Express. And, when I set up an eMachines T2240 for a little girl,
whose parents had handed it down after getting a new computer for
themselves, there was no MS office suite at all, and MS Outlook Express does
not even have spell check capability on that computer.

MS Outlook Express was developed by a different internal MSFT group than MS
Office. MS Outlook Express has not been under development for around two
years. The MS Office development team is under no obligation to ensure that
their product maintains compatibility with applications which "borrow" its
features.

For those reasons, you either need an older version of the MS Office install
discs, no later than MS Office 2003, and install only the proofing tools, or
you need to find a third party add-in on the Internet. There are several. I
have not kept track because I learned how to get the MS Works proofing tools
off of the old WinMe system, and hack the registry to make it work on the
latest computer. I'd have to research what I did; I did not write down the
steps I took. I think I'd just go with one of the free tools if I had to do
it over again.

Thank you for taking the time to appreciate my problem. It would seem that
the mighty Microsoft would do SOMETHING to resolve an existing and known
problem.

I had MS Works 2003 which was deleted to clear a "virius", that program came
with the machine, Dell Windows XP, when I attempted to reinstall MS Works
alas that "disk" could not be located and maybe I never had it. Factory
loaded suite?

Sad but that appears to be the way it is.

Every Dell I've purchased with Works on it (and I've purchased many) has a
Works disk packed with it.

In answer to the question beacause I am looking for a bear.

As to the other item the Suite that I have includes Word 2007 and there the
spell checker is as it should be ENGLISH (US) then when I attempt to deploy
spell check in Outlook express up comes FRENCH. Hang in there and there must
be someway to "convert" French to English or is this just some programers
idea of a joke.

Me thinks that Microsoft is gonna get a lot of "my" questions.

MR Davis this be a thankyou. Went to the suggested site poked arround and
came back empty handed. Strange how FREE always requires a credit card
number, as to downloading the suggested THAT no longer seems to be available
and so I find that I am where I was.

Thanks for your time and effort
