Outlook Express

Hi

I can't see all news in Outlook Express. The news
are shown until 20th of november, but not more.

What can I do, to see news which where posted after this
date?

My understanding is that the newsgroup servers keep messages for about 90
days. This contributor seems to be unable to see messages *younger* than
about 10 days.

Because OE doesn't download them all. You only need the last 24 hrs. OE deletes all over 5 days as standard.

As he can certainly get 30 days worth (not 90 due to the fact MS use their own software and it can't work with 90 days) of messages, but why? I only ever have a max of 2 days.

It's quite a stupid thing to do.

Rubbish. I've got messages back to 6 November on my OE and that uses default
settings.

If the OP connects to msnews.microsoft.com he can certainly get 90 days of
messages.

You can use the "maintenance" tab (browse to the newsgroups)
to remove the messages that have been downloaded, clear the
headers and download them again, if they are still on the
server. That may fix the inability to get the newest posts.
It is possible that your computer date is set incorrectly,
check that too.

The only way to remove the message headers is to manually remove them or
have them expire on the server.

In my copy of OE, Tools-Options-Maintenance-Clean Up Now has a "Delete"
button that says "Deletes All Message Bodies and Headers".
So what does that do if it doesn't delete headers?

What about on just the maintenance tab that is ticked by default - Delete News Messages 5 days after downloading.
But I run a daily rule every day to leave only one days messages.

David, that option requires Background Compacting to be enabled, which is
*not* recommended as it *may* lead to corruption in the store and loss of
messages.

Let me restate my reply.
The only way to remove 'selected' message headers is to manually remove them
or
have them expire on the server.

If you want to remove all message headers and bodies, then use the delete
option under maintenance.
