t opened MS Internet ExplorerJust got a new computer (HP Pavillion -
excellent!) and set it up without problems.

However, Outlook Express pops up automatically soon after login but when you
have entered the password it doesn't open. But when you next click on the
O.E. icon it opens without asking for the password and does so each time
until you log off. So it seems to be some sort of pre logon.

How can I set it so it only launches when the icon is clicked and make sure
it does ask for the password EACH time it is opened? That is how it was on
the old machine, so I am sure there is a tweak somewhere but I can't find it.

I have a broadband connection via a router so I am always on and OE comes up
even if I have not opened Internet Explorer.

I can't find anything in the MS Knowledge Base.

By the way - this problem sometimes coinicides with a message from Norton
2005 about Veritas Storage, not sure if they are connected at all

Thanks for any help
Mike

Totally unintelligible to me. Please explain this again
precisely.

After you log on to Windows via the user screen after boot up and Windows
loads the desktop icons etc, the Outlook Express opening screen appears
asking for the user's password. When the correct password is entered the
screen disappears but OE does not load. However, when you subsequently click
on the OE desktop icon it loads without asking for the password and does this
each time until the user logs off Windows. This happens on all user names.

I am on Windows XP with upto date service packs etc and I have a broadband
connection via a router so I am always on and OE comes up even if I have not
opened Internet Explorer.

As I mentioned, this problem sometimes coinicides with a message from Norton
2005 about Veritas Storage, not sure if they are connected at all.

I want to get to the situation where OE asks for your password each time you
open it.

I hope this clarifies for you and thanks for your interest.

i think u created a short cut to an open and runing outlook.and that is what
windows is giving u....elemenate the short cut and see what happens..then u
have to creat a short cut to a closed and not runing out look....

Yes, thanks, clear now.

It is a peculiar error, and I can't tell the cause. What I would
try is this:

Uninstall Norton. The Norton security programs are known to
cause a whole range of problems.

Do a repair installation of Windows (details see
http://winhlp.com/ , search for repair-installation).
