Outlook Express will not spell-check.

I have been having a problem when I installed multiple
new licensed copies of Win XP (with service pack 1a). I
also have installed Office 97 (not sure if this is
compatible but cannot find anywhere to say its not) and I
keep getting an error message displayed when you try to
spell-check the document which says,

"The Spellcheck has failed".

Also if select the 'auto spellcheck tab' in OPTIONS, when
you try and send it a message appears, "Spellcheck has
been halted". I have bought OEM copies from my hardware
supplier, but they tell me that I do not have any support
contract from them. Needless to say after spending
£10,000 on software (100 pc's), I am a little miffed that
Microsoft wants another £45 per problem for them to give
me an answer. Hasn't Bill Gates earned enough already?

Can anyone offer me any advice here? Any information
would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance, Simon Jenkins.

Hi, well to blame MS and Bill Gates for your problems is a little silly as
this is a one that you could have fixed yourself if you'd done a little
searching. It involves a .DLL, CSAPI3T1.DLL, this is required to enable
spell checking in Outlook Express when using Microsoft Word 97. The site of
this file is in the Proof folder i.e. C: / Programs/ Common Files/ Microsoft
Shared/ Proof. To solve the problem download the file from here
http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/csapi3t1.htm into the Proof folder.

This may cure your ills,

1.. Go to the i386 directory of your XP source files
2.. Run Expand csapi3t1.dl_ csapi3t1.dll (Note: If your source files are
on a CD, you will need to put a path before the csapi3t1.dll since you can't
write to the CD).
3.. Copy the file to the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof
directory
