Outlook Express will not open

I have had Outlook installed and since then I have reinstalled Outlook
Express 5 and 6, but the application will not open even when clicked on
directly.
Can someone please offer an explanation, and better still - a solution.

Go to Task Manager and see if there is any running instance of
msimn.exe (executable for Outlook express). If there are, kill all the
instances. Then launch OE again.

How, pray tell, did you reinstall OE5, let alone OE6, on this WinXP machine?

OT: The machine you used to post your message is running outdated and much
less-secure versions of OE, IE and Windows. Check in at Windows Update
ASAP!

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
