Outlook express special characters

My question didn't get posted yesterdays so here goes again..
In windows "98" Outlook Express, If I want to type for example e with an
accent as in my name Andre I hold the Alt key while typing # 1 3 0 and the
letter e with the proper accent comes out. Not so with my other P.C.
I'm running XP Home edition on a compaq presario 700 notebook and everything
else in outlook express 6 with all the current updates works
perfectly....Thanks

You have to type the 130 on the numeric keypad, not on the top
row of numbers.

If you do this frequemt;ly, you may ne interested in a little
freeware background program I use called AllChars. This lets me
(in all applications, not just OE) type many common special
characters (many of these are used in other languages) by
pressing the ctrl key followed by a two character mnemonic
combination.

For example, for é the two characters are ' and e. For ñ the two
characters are ~ and n. For ç it's c and , For ü it's u and "

Either that or just add one of the Spanish keyboards that comes with
Windows. I typed this ñ and ç without using any number or special programs.
I hit only one key.

Yes, your question did get posted and you got answers. Search Google
Groups Advanced (searching in this newsgroup
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general) for your name. You are having
difficulties because you are using the web interface, which is really
the worst way to access this newsgroup. You will get far more out of
this resource if you learn to use a newsreader. There are many good
newsreaders for Windows, but you can use Outlook Express since you
already have it. Here are some links to information about newsgroups to
broaden your posting pleasure!

Yes, but what I like about Allchars is that it lets me type such
charcters in many different languages, not just Spanish. And I
don't like the way the Windows International keyboard works.

Thanks for that info and I have downloaded the program to a cd I use for all
such programs that I find interesting and may use at a future date. I rarely
write in french these days and only use the french csr's for my signature but
I like to be prepared........................André
Switching the Num Lk on and of could become a pain!!!!!
