Ok, so I run it as an extra, prior to OE, but to me it's worth the trouble.

I use SpamPal www.spampal.org which is brilliant. I suggest the latest Beta
version as this works in transparent mode and so is very simple to set-up.
Highly recommended.

I'm trying Cactus spam filter with Thunderbird and it wirjing pretty good
so far. Works with OE and lots of other email prgs. Easy to use as well.

I have found the spam filtering in Thunderbird to be adequte without
any external filtering. I was using K9 with it, but thought to
myself, "Why?"

Thunderbird catches virtually no spam for me. I trained it for at least
a month classifying both good and bad mails and I'd say at least 90% of
the spam gets through.
