I was recently sent my .pst file from my previous employer and would like to
load it onto my Outlook at home. I have Outlook Express 2003. Can someone
please tell me how to go about doing this. Thank you.

Outlook Express can't open PSTs. Do you have any version of Outlook (not
Express) at home?

Actually, this question was for one of my ex co-workers who recently got laid
off. I sent her your response and suggested that she go to the Microsoft
website to see if she could update from Express to some better version of
Outlook. In the event that she cannot update, I can ask her to send me her
..pst file and I can load it onto my Outlook. I don't mind doing that for her
but what I don't know is how to go about converting anything in her .pst file
into something that she can access through Express. Any suggestions?

Your best approach, in my opinion, is to import your data into Outlook Express
on your PC and send her the dbx files, which she can incorporate into her
Outlook Express.

Are you running Windows XP? If so, you do indeed have Outlook Express.

Every Windows PC comes with either Outlook Express (WIndows XP and earlier) or
Windows Mail (Vista) except, perhaps, in the EU.

OK. I located Express and I put a shortcut for it on my desktop. Now, could
you please tell me how to go about importing my friend's .pst files into
Express and then finding the .dbx file to send back to her?

Thank you very much. This is VERY, VERY helpful.

You can't import PSTs into Outlook Express. You must first configure your
Outlook to use your friend's PST. Once you've done that, you can import the
messages with OE by clicking File>Import>Messages>Microsoft Outlook. This
will create dbx files in your Identities folder
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{somebigvalue}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Give her all of
those DBX files and she'll be able to import them into her Outlook Express.
That will transfer the mail. If she wants her contacts, once the PST is
loaded into your Outlook, export the Contacts folder to a comma-separated
values file and give that to her. She can import that into Outlook Express.
