Outlook Express question-Mail

Normally I use the Send/Receive Icon to retrieve my mail.
I discovered when I go |TOOLS| SEND AND RECEIVE| and then click the name of
my mail server, that I get all the messages that I have previously received.
I called my ISP's help desk as I was concerned that all my mail received was
staying on their server, taking up space and eating up my quota. The help
desk person was not aware of this and said there must be a wrong setting or
bug in my Outlook Express. He had me check to view the Advanced tab
properties to see that I had not checked on the "Leave a copy of messages on
server". I hadn't. It is blank.
Is this an ISP server setting that is wrong? or is this a normal function of
OE6?... or do I have something set wrong.

Thanks.

Probably best to post this in an OE newsgroup, as it isn't related to
Windows XP.

A good website for information on OE is:

I know you said you had not checked "Leave copy....." but try the
following anyway.

If your POP3 mail account is configured to "leave a copy of messages on
the server" under Tools | Accounts | <account> | Properties | Advanced,
it sometimes happens that OE downloads the same messages each time you
send and receive. This is caused by a damaged "Pop3uidl.dbx" file in
your Identity's store folder. This file keeps track of which messages on
the server have already been downloaded and should therefore be skipped
on subsequent downloads. To fix the problem, simply delete the
"Pop3uidl.dbx" file. The next time you check for mail, all the messages
on the server will be downloaded again, but a new "Pop3uidl.dbx" will be
created that should work properly on subsequent mail checks.
