Outlook Express problem

When I send an email from my address book, Outlook Express maks me choose
from a list of contacts with the same first name. For example, if I send
something to Joan Kay, it will ask me to choose among six people named Joan
and two with "joan" in their email address.

Is this a "feature" of OE? If I chose the contact from the address book,
why do we have to review from the beginning, and why does it match the first
name only?

Why are you sending email from within the address book. The easier way is to simply select Message/New Message from the toolbar. If you have the "Autocomplete e-mail addresses when composing" option selected in, Tools/Options/Read Tab, as soon as you start typing the persons name or email address it will automatically search the address book and start finishing the email address. If you type Joan and you have multiple Joan's in the address book, it will start by displaying the first entry for Joan and will continue until a character you type is different from the others.

In this case, as soon as you type the "K", it will enter the email address for Joan Kay.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. That's exactly what I'm doing:

Create a message
Click on "To:"
Select an address from the address book. It goes into the To: field

....or any other way I get it there, such as through autocomplete. So even if
OE selected the address, it wants to confirm which Joan I'm talking about!

When I click [SEND] it asks me which "Joan" I want. Not sometimes -- all the
time, if there are multiple Joans.

Keep in mind that all my contacts are last name, first name...if that makes
any difference.

Any ideas? It doesn't happen to you?

I'm not sure this will help, but do you press Enter to select a "Kay"?
that should move the prompt for a name to the next line, and possibly
lock in the proper Kay..

I'll try it. I usually double-click in the address book. But the problem
also exists when I use autocomplete, where there is no [Enter] key use.

Big bug: If you list your contacts as Last Name [comma] First Name you get
this runaround. It doesn't happen with First Name Last Name or Last Name
First Name. IOW, it's the comma that screws IE up.

Now to revise my whole #$%^%^& address book.
