When OE asks if I want to compact files to save space & I check "yes", they
are appearing as .bak files in the Recyle Bin. What is going on???????

Hello,

It is a backup of your mail files in case something goes wrong during the
compact process.

You can delete the files in the Recycle Bin if your mail folders are
functioning properly after the compact.

thanks for answering. I've compacting numerous times over the past 1.5 yrs &
have NEVER seen it do that until recently. I was shocked to see the recycle
bin full of my mail.

Does the compacted files still remain in the same folders in OE as
previously stored?

Hello,

It is done by the latest update, that is why it wasn't there before.

Yes, the compact files still remain in the same folders in OE as previously
stored.

hi,
could you please tell me which update caused to these .bak extension files
in recyle bin?
