Outlook Express blocking "unsafe" attachments

Any help is greatly appreciated. After downloading latest
Windows Updates, a feature in Outlook Express is
disallowing me to access most attachments. Some pdfs got
through, but .doc and publisher have not. I could not find
within the options how to correct this. Any ideas?
 
Tools|Options|Security and uncheck the box for "Do not allow
attachments........."
