daughter is away at school and just installed SP2 on a XP
Pro machine. When she started outlook express after the
reboot all of her previous mail messages are missing! I've
searched the support forums and couldn't find any problems
similar. has anybody run into this and if so know of a
fix? She did have to re=enter the pop servers and her
password which somehow disappeared. She's a little
desperate at the moment.

I'm not too sure of a fix, but do a search for .dbx files on her computer
and see if there are any. Then just move them to the C:\Documents and
Settings\User\User's Documents\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{Gobledeegook}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. There will likely
be the one's that are there now and the lost one's. You'll have to find the
ones she needs (the lost one's) and then move those to that folder and
delete the others (the one's that are there now). Make sure that Outlook
Express is closed before she moves them though. And be SURE that the one's
you delete are the one's you don't want because you won't be able to get
them back once they are deleted, obviously. HTH.

I forgot to say that you'll need to unhide the hidden folders to see the
Local Settings folder and so on.

Thanks for the help. It looks like SP2 creates a
new "folder" internally within a users ID for mail. The
old mail folder is still there. You can drill down into
the directory to find the folders or "start express and
click on "tools" "options" "Maintenance" then the "Store
Folder" button half way down the page. A window will pop
up with the current data store, if you click "change" a
new window will pop up showing all of the other mail
stores. Then you can simply click on the other store name
and click OK. you then need to restart express. If there
are more than two stores listed you can use a trial and
error method.
