outlook express and excel

Please help. When i am in outlook express I can open a
word attatchement but I cant open an excel attatchement.
i have a windows 98 operating system and using office
2000. thnx Francois

A couple possible reasons:

1) You don't have Excel in which case you could get the
Excel viewer

2) The file type for .XLS is unknown to your Win98

3) Excel has been set to "Ignore other applications"
in which case you should open Excel, Tools->Options-

General-- Uncheck "Ignore other applications"

Just to add to Kent's reply, sometimes one of these works when the same problem
appears when double clicking on a .xls file in windows explorer.

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)
