Outlook Express and end program problems

Occassionally outlook express freezes and will not respond. When I run task
manager and choose to end program, the end program also will not respond.
The only way forward appears to be to reboot the system each time.

I use AVG antivirus. Occassionally the email scanner runs and runs and I
need to reboot and turn off the email scanner in order to receive mail.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Make sure that the Task Manager is running before it happens. Look at it's tray icon. Is it light or dark green? If it's
completely light (100% CPU usage), then something is sucking cycles hard. Try to open the Task Manager and look for the process
with the highest CPU percentage. You can then determine who's responsible. Note, it may take a while (aka a LONG time) to get the
Task Manager open and to find the process if something is using the CPU at 100% (especially if they are running at a higher
priority) because then the Task Manager (and the whole system) becomes less responsive. Try not to give up, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete
to open the task manager, if it does not open, just wait; click the process or scroll bar even if it does nothing, eventually the TM
will get a slice of CPU time and will process your commands.
