Can anyone tell me why, after I permanently delete a large number of items
from the the "Deleted Items" folder, the size of the file "deleted Items.dbx"
remains unchanged?? I am puzzled!!

1) Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup, like
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
2) See http://www,insideoe.com/
3) Compact the folder. See Help.

Brian,
Thank you for your prompt reply. Compacting has not changed that file
size--and that is one of the reasons that I am puzzled. I will try your
suggested links.

If you REALLY want to make the Deleted Items folder smaller, just delete
Deleted Items.dbx with OE closed. It will recreate a minimum size folder
file when next you start it.

Brian,
I don't want to do that because there are a number of "deleted items" that I
want to retain. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

Umm "deleted" items means just that - do NOT store things you want to keep
in the "deleted items" folder!

Gordon,

Apparentlly "deleted" simply means deleted from the "in box". Messages
remain in the "deleted items.dbx" file until you delete them from that file.
They are at all times recallable from the "deleted items" box until deleted
from that location. It appears that even then they are not really deleted
because the file size does not appear to change--but now you vannot recall
them. As Brian suggested, I could probably delete the entire file but I
prefer not to do that.

I re-iterate: do NOT store items you want to KEEP in the "Deleted items"
folder. It is NOT designed for that, and is also liable to corruption, as
you have found out.
