outlook.exe will not close when I restart my computer

Everytime I need to restart my computer, outlook.exe will not close. The
computer will try, but then I get a message saying that outlook.exe is not
responding. I click on the "End Now" button, but it will pop open the
closing box again and again. I may have to tell it to End Now 10 times
before it will finally restart. It seems that even though I've closed
Microsoft Outlook, the .exe file is still running in the background.

What can I do to make it close on the first try?

Do you have any antivirus applications running? Try disabling them prior to
shutdown and see if Outlook still hangs.

More info....After looking through some other topic posts, I checked my Task
Manager. It seems that an outlook.exe process is left open each time I open
Outlook. That would explain why I get so many "Closing Outlook.exe" boxes
when I restart, especially if it's been a few days. But still my question is
why .exe keeps running when I close the program?

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't seem to help. Don't know if you read my
2nd post, but I've discovered that an outlook.exe process is listed in my
task manager for every time that I open the program. When I disabled my
antivirus and opened Outlook, it still left another process open in task
manager after I closed it.

By the way, I'm running Outlook 2002 on Windows XP, SP2. Forgot to mention
that earlier.

In regards to those process listed in Task Manager, can I just end each one
there without hurting anything? When I started to, it tells me that
terminating a process can cause data and system instability, so I didn't do
it. But with the program already closed, would it make a difference?
