Outlook-exchange-synchronising-profiles

I have Outlook 2007 installed on my laptop, and my company has set me up with
microsoft exchange for all the company emails and this i u have an ost file.
However i also have my own private email addresses and so had to set up
another profile (a pst file) to access them as apparently they couldn't be
setup on my exchange account.
The problem I now have is trying to keep my contacts and calendar
synchronised between them so that they both show the same information.
When I'm at home I only use my private profile for emails, contacts,
calendar etc, but my pda has been setup to synchronise with the exchange
(work) profile and thus doesn't contain the entries i put into my private
profile, which causes me some problems.
Is there a way that the contacts & calander from my private profile can be
shared with my exchange (work) profile? which would also mean that my pda
shares the same data.
Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Do not confuse "mail profile" with "PST". They are not at all equivalent.
There's no reason why you can't reference your private PST in the same mail
profile that holds your Exchange account. Moreover, there's no reason you
can't combine your private and work accounts into the same mail profile in
such a way that both will use the same folders.
The problem I now have is trying to keep my contacts and calendar
synchronised between them so that they both show the same information.

POP and Exhcange accounts within the same mail profile. always share the
same delivery location (default folder set). With Outlook 2007 you can
specify a separate Inbox and Sent Items folder for each account, but all the
other default folders will be shared. With this arrangement, you can keep
all your Contacts, Calendar (everything but mail), both work and personal,
in the same folders and your PDA will sync with those folders, if you sync
with Outlook and not directly with Exchange.

With multiple profiles, you can have separate delivery locations that are
not shared. You cna then sync your PDA to each profile when you switch from
one profile to the other and allow the PDA to keep the information in both
profiles the same.

I can't tell from what you wrote if you actually have two mail profiles or
two accounts in the same profile or just one account, but with a PST added
to that account. Can you be more specific?

Hi Brian,
Thank you very much for your reply, that has made things a lot clearer for me.
I have answered some of your questions below and asked some further questions.

I see; I had no idea this was possible. So I have now opened my private PST
file within my work profile and I can now see the default calendar and the
calendar from the personal folder, is there an easy that i can import/combine
the items from the personal folder into the default calendar so that i just
have one calendar? At present there are some items showing in both of them
and some only in one or the other.
Likewise I would like to import/combine the contacts from the personal
folder into the default contacts.
I can't tell from what you wrote if you actually have two mail profiles or

I have two mail profiles. A work profile which is an exchange account and a
seperate profile which is my personal account and is a pst file.
I have now opened up the pst file from within the work profile but now am
wondering how to import all the email account settings, rules etc? Is this
easily achieved?
Many thanks again for your help, it is much appreciated and will save me a
lot of time and make things far easier for me.

Open the calendar whose entries you want to replicate. Select a table view
like By Category. Select all the items by pressing Ctrl-A. Then
right-click and drag the selection to the main calendar and release the mose
button. Choose Copy. You can do the same for the Contacts folder.

The mail account settings aren't kept in the PST. It's easiest if you
simply add that account to the profile manually. Check with your management
to make sure they don't mind if you add personal accounts. Rules are also
profile-specific. I'd recommend opening the personal profile, exporting the
rules with the RUles Wizard to an RWZ file, then importing those rules after
opening the profile containing the Exchange account.

Not certain I'm entering this in the right 'thread' but I too have an issue
re: synching multiple Outlook 2007 profiles. Situation facts:
1. I use three separate profiles all running on our Exchange server. (I
have my own name@ profile; an admin@ profile and a third profile.) I do need
to monitor all three.
2. Each of these profiles has its own password

3. When I log on with my own name@ profile, the other two profiles load and
I can see their inbox/sent/drafts/calendars/etc.

4. Minor Problem: The junk mail filter only works on the first profile that
is logged in. It does not work on the other two.

5. Major Problem: I cannot get the subfolders of the other two accounts to
synch. I have chosen subfolders and individually marked them synch, but
they don't actually do it.

6. Irritating Problem: When I try to move the non synching subfolders to
the Public Folder where others can use them, I receive a "May contain private
items" message. Yet we do not use private items. Even in folders in which I
am the only sender, I get this message.
